A wreck at the intersection of North Broad Street and North Avenue damaged five cars and sent two people to Floyd Medical Center Sunday afternoon.

According to Officer Kevin Drew with the Rome Police Department:

Frances Strickland of Rome, driving a teal 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, ran a red light while turning onto North Broad Street from North Avenue.

Ava Wagner of Rome, driving a beige 1998 Nissan Frontier, was unable to stop and hit Stickland’s Oldsmobile. Wagner’s truck flipped, then hit a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Theda Camp of Rome. The Nissan came to rest on a silver 1998 Nissan Frontier in the parking lot of Smart Shop Antique Mall and Flea Market.

Joshua Richards of Rome, driving a beige Nissan Maxima, also struck the Oldsmobile. He told police he was unable to avoid the wreck.

Strickland and Sandy Sumner, a passenger in Wagner’s vehicle, were taken to FMC with injuries.

Drew said Strickland was cited for running a red light.

Strickland was still in the emergency room late Sunday evening, a FMC spokeswoman said. There was no record of Sumner’s treatment.
