The growth of at-home businesses has been tremendous in recent years, but running a furniture store out of your home?
Dale and Beth Swann are doing just that. They’re certainly no strangers to the furniture business having operated Jack Robbins Furniture in the Cotton Block of Broad Street for close to three decades.
Swann sold his building to John Massey several years ago and went into a short retirement. He tried his hand at outside sales for a while, but at the urging of many of his former customers, is now operating Swann Interiors as a special order shop from his residence on Turner Chapel Road.
His show room can be seen online at
www.swanninteriors.com.
“We don’t have much overhead so we can really help people save money,” said Swann. He said that Swann Interiors is able to offer a full line of furniture — home and office furnishings from Hooker Furniture, the complete line from Lexington Home Brands, Jamison Bedding, Stanley Furniture and much more.
He says operating out of the home allows him to devote full attention to each customer.
“We’re able to spend one hour or three hours, whatever the customer needs,” said Swann.
His wife Beth was born into the furniture business, the daughter of long time downtown merchant Jack Robbins.
“We missed our customers and seeing the excitement of our customers when we deliver that piece of furniture and see a home transformed,” said Swann.
In spite of the fact that he doesn’t have a showroom, Swann will still deliver items, at no additional charge in the immediate Rome area.
