ATLANTA (AP) — A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections said the recent deaths of two death row inmates are still being investigated.

Spokeswoman Peggy Chapman said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help investigate the deaths of Leeland Mark Braley, 35, and Timothy Pruitt, 43.

The department reported that Braley was found hanging in his cell at the state prison in Jackson early Friday. Officials called it an apparent suicide.

Last month, Pruitt died in a hospital, weeks after he was injured in what authorities described as an alleged suicide attempt. They did not provide details.

She said the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, where death row inmates are housed, recently began restricting contact visits for them. She said the restirctions are not related to the inmate deaths.

Chapman said death row inmates are housed one to a cell and are allowed out in groups of five for two hours a day.
