A Silver Creek woman was arrested Sunday on misdemeanor shoplifting charges but after a search at the jail, police found three small bags of suspected methamphetamine and three prescription pills in an ibuprofen bottle resulting in more serious charges, reports stated.

According to Rome police and Floyd County Jail records:

Divell Ann Welchel, 54, of 5085 Rockmart Road, is charged with felony possession of meth, crossing the jail guardline with meth and misdemeanor theft by shoplifting and drugs to be kept in original container.

Welchel reportedly was caught by Belks store security with a $24 pair of earrings and a $40 ring as she attempted to leave the store without paying.

After being taken to the jail on shoplifting charges, she was found in possession of the drugs.

Welchel remains in jail with no bail.
