Those wishing to support diabetes education and research can participate in this year’s Walk to Defeat Diabetes, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, at Ridge Ferry Park.

The walk is sponsored by the Diabetes Council of Northwest Georgia, and it is the first one the group has organized since 2006, according to Chairman Hal Storey.

“We are excited to be holding another walk this year and we hope the absence the last year will not impact our community’s support,” Storey said. “This is such a great time of year and this cause is certainly worthy of our support and I hope our friends and neighbors will join us.”

The walk is open to everyone, but participants are encouraged to make a donation. Teams of five or more also are welcome.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The start and end point for the 5-kilometer route is the Shoals Ferry Area.
