A coroner's inquest will be held Thursday to determine the cause of death of a man being housed at the Floyd County Jail in March, Coroner Barry Henderson said.

Larry Stokes, 38, a state prisoner from Gordon County, died March 2 at Floyd Medical Center.

Deputy Chief Tom Caldwell, Floyd Sheriff’s Office, earlier said Stokes, 245 Airport Circle, Resaca, was injured after somehow hitting his head during a fight with another inmmate.

State law requires an inquest whenever someone dies in custody.

Stokes, who was convicted of two counts of trafficking methamphetamine and sentenced to 15 years in state prison, was brought to Floyd County on Feb. 14.

Thursday's hearing will be held at 10 a.m. in Courtroom B of Floyd County Superior Court
