The Floyd County Animal Shelter has begun implanting microchips in all animals that will be adopted out.

“Micro chips cannot get lost and stay with the animal everywhere they go,” said Shelter Manager Jason Broome.

Owners will need to register with the Home Again database, which stores owner information, as well as offering services such as e-mail alerts to help find missing pets.

The shelter's adoption of $35 for cats and $40 for dogs includes the microchip.
