In early January, Redmond asked to take over the Coosa, West Rome and Garden Lakes zones from Floyd EMS after several concerns surfaced about the safety and working conditions at Floyd’s ambulance service.
Matthew Crumpton, chair of the committee, said he was speaking for the committee as a whole when he recommended that both Redmond Regional Medical Center and Floyd Medical Center must submit monthly reports to the EMS Region 1 office.
In those reports must be a call volume breakdown, number of hours of staffing per day, the number of trucks run per day, the structure of leadership, detailed list of paramedics and EMTs available and any calls resulting in a delivery disruption due to trucks not being available.
Both services are committed to the community," said Crumpton. "It's a continuation of information that ensures all concerns are heard for the patients of Floyd County."
Ed Moyer, chief nursing officer at Redmond said he was disappointed with the decision.
"We're disappointed, but we will continue doing what we do everyday -- taking care of patients," said Moyer. "We'll be back June 9."
Larry Alford, a long-time paramedic with Floyd, said he felt it was a good decision.
"It gives them more time to evaluate and see if the problems are really problems," said Alford. "Every business has issues. I think this will give us an opportunity to fix the problems and go on."
