Its always nice to see the hard work of the hometown newspaper honored, especially in key categories that show our dedication to covering the news of our community, said Charlotte Atkins, Rome News-Tribune editor. Im so proud that we had several awards that recognized the efforts and talent of the staff as a team, and I congratulate the individual award winners. Still, our greatest reward is serving our readers.
News Publishing Co., the parent company of the Rome News-Tribune, also owns six weekly newspapers in Northwest Georgia and East Alabama. Those other publications won 27 awards at Friday nights banquet.
Burgett H. Mooney III, publisher of the Rome News-Tribune and president of News Publishing Co., finished his term Saturday as president of the Georgia Press Association.
The Rome News-Tribune and the Calhoun Times also received advertising awards from the Georgia Press Association earlier this year.
