All four lanes of North Broad Street are now open after authorities briefly closed both inside lanes while cleaning up a four-vehicle crash just north of the Five Points intersection.

According to Pfc. Josh Kerce of the Rome Police Department:

The crash occurred at about 3:15 p.m. in the northbound inside lane when a van driven by Jose Fernandez, 31, of Euharlee, crashed into the rear end of a waiting Nissan Sentra driven by Charles Tant, 46, of Cave Spring, and knocked the Nissan into a Ford pickup truck driven by Carol Hobgood. 51, of Rome. After the initial impact, a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Cinthia Hefner, 41, of Adairsville, struck Fernandez in the rear end.

Tant was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment. Both Hefner and Fernandez were cited for following too closely. Both inside lanes were closed for about 45 minutes.
