Several Darlington School seniors have been awarded scholarships recently.
Alex Copeland earned a $72,000 Academic Achievement Award from Tulane University. He is the son of Robert and Lulu Copeland of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.
C.J. Cypress earned a $12,000 Faculty Scholarship from Young Harris College. He is the son of Sybil Cypress of Alameda, Calif., and Cornell Cypress of Atlanta.
Michelle Picon earned a $58,000 Trustee Distinguished Scholarship from Rice University. She is the daughter of Hector and Michelle Picon of Rome.
Lee Taylor earned a $24,000 Fletcher Award from Sweetbriar College. She is the daughter of John and Julia Taylor of Rome.
Honor Society inducts 30 new members
The Darlington School Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 30 new members recently.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors who have been at Darlington for the equivalent of one semester or more are eligible for induction. Students are eligible if their overall high school average is at least 87.5.
Candidates also must have attained at least one major leadership role either through election or appointment, and must have been involved in two or more service activities per year.
New members this year are Dylan Baker, Isabel Bonnyman, Garrett Brown, Grover Brown, Nat Brumbaugh, Rachel Buckle, Katherine Burton, Anisha Chandra, Eujin Cho, Alexandra Dodd, Lauren Dulaney, Ryan Gaffney, Mac Guilliland, Lauren Hampton, Cleve Jackson, Chang Lee, Laura Lynch, Caitlin Murray, Arm Napombejara, Matt Nelson, Kelly OMara, Cole Phillips, Monique Picon, Patrick Pierson, Jett Wayne Puckett, Laura Rhoades, Taylor Richardson, Cedrica Spivey, Lee Taylor and Ali Terrell.
Johnson third-grader wins pageant title
Johnson Elementary School third-grader Jennifer Zuker won the title of Miss Model Young Miss at a recent pageant.
She is the daughter of Walter Zuker and Katrina Yarbrough.
