Cedartown furniture manufacturer HON Co. signed a partnership Tuesday for yet another round of training under the Georgia Quick Start program as the factory prepares to add a product line and 24 new jobs.

Coosa Valley Technical College will administer the training, as it has several times before for the award-winning manufacturing facility.

“They have invested a lot of money in their work force,” said Craig McDaniel, the college’s president.

HON, headquartered in Iowa, employs about 775 people at its Cedartown plant where it makes metal and laminate office furniture. The latest expansion is to add a fourth laminate production cell — about a $1.6 million investment.

“That factory has grown to be a much more significant portion of our business,” said Todd Murphy, the plant’s vice president and general manager. “There’s definitely a lot more growth potential for us here.”

The factory has also expanded its distribution center during the past two years, adding 46 jobs in that area.

The Cedartown operation has been recognized for manufacturing excellence, receiving the Shingo Prize in 2003 and Georgia’s Oglethorpe Award in 2004 and being named one of IndustryWeek’s top 10 North American manufacturers in 2005.
