The 8-year-old tournament saw four games washed away and re-scheduled for today, while the 14-year-old tournament had a lengthy delay.
The 8-year-old division, which has 11 teams in the field, did get in five games before the rains forced play to come to a halt.
In the winner’s bracket, the Oregon Park Dragons beat the Oregon Park Warriors, 12-3, Bartow American edged Rome American, 11-10, and Rome National shut out the Wicked Stix, 11-0.
In the loser’s bracket, Bartow National eliminated the Dallas Stars, 20-12, and the Oregon Park Red Storm edged past the Paulding Cobras, 20-17.
A pair of loser’s bracket games featuring Bartow National against the Oregon Park Red Storm and Rome Rec against the Oregon Park Warriors were in progress when the rains came and will resume this morning at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., Bartow American will face Rome National in a winner’s bracket game and Rome American and the Wicked Stix will square off in an elimination game.
After a pair of elimination games at 12:30 p.m., the Oregon Park Dragons will face the Bartow American-Rome National winner in the winner’s bracket final at 2.
There are seven teams in the 14-year-old division and a pair of winner’s bracket games were completed before the rain delay.
Rome Youth Activities won its tournament opener by downing Bartow American, 8-2, and West Cobb Green demolished Bartow National, 23-1.
After the delay, the Dallas Storm beat Paulding County 23-8 in an elimination game, Rome Youth Activities knocked off West Cobb Blue 6-3 in a winner’s bracket matchup, and Bartow American took a 12-2 win over Bartow National in an elimination game.
The 14-year-old tournament resumes at noon today.
The top four teams in each tournament advance to the Dizzy Dean State Tournament.
The 8-year-old tournament is at Boynton in Catoosa County and the 14-year-old tournament is at Sharon Springs in Cumming.
GRPA DISTRICT 5
The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation all-stars opened the district tourney in Dalton with a pair of wins Saturday, blanking Kennesaw 10-0 and handing Whitfield National a 13-4 defeat.
Against Kennesaw, Warren Brumbelow and Jacob Williams combined to pitch a 2-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Rome.
Brumbelow added a 2-run homer as did Dylan Little.
Kyle Wilson and Brumbelow both went 3-for-3 in the win against Whitfield.
Rome returns to action Tuesday at 8 p.m., facing Kennesaw Red
