The third annual Polar Bear Paddle on the Etowah River is scheduled for Jan. 10. The six-mile trip begins with registration at 10 a.m. and a safety lecture at 10:30 a.m. Boats will be in the river at Dixon Landing at Grizzard Park by 11 a.m.

Participants will paddle past rural Rome, downtown, Myrtle Hill and Heritage Park during the three to four hour event.

The Polar Bear Paddle is free for those bringing their own kayaks or canoes and transportation. Canoes are available for rental by contacting Alan Crawford at 706-291-7449 or fatboyal@bellsouth.net. A shuttle will be available for $5 per person for those needing transportation back to Grizzard Park from Heritage Park. An event souvenir and hot chocolate will also be available for purchase.

The Polar Bear Paddle is sponsored each year by the City of Rome, Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful, Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau, & Coosa River Basin Initiative.
