Xavier Chapter, DAR, Rome, is the second chapter in Georgia, founded in 1891, and the seventh chapter in the nation. The local chapter of DAR actively participates in projects in the Rome/Floyd County community.
Xavier Chapter, DAR, supports local schools in their efforts to educate students in American History and Good Citizenship by sponsoring middle and high school essay contests and recognizing Good Citizens with awards. This year, Xavier announces the Georgia State Outstanding American History Teacher is Andy Blackburn, Rome High School, and the Georgia State Christopher Columbus Essay winner is Coltan Palmer, Rome High School senior 2009.
The DAR also supports college students with scholarships. Berry College is a DAR approved school.
