The event starts today and continues through Sunday.
Schabort recently placed fourth in the 10th annual Cedartown 5K, as well as the Peachtree Road Race.
Also in Alaska for the challenge is Ann Hortman of Rome. Hortman helps coordinate the Clocktower Classic in Rome each year, and will be a support and gear driver for a group of athletes.

She said there will be several athletes racing in Alaska who race in Rome each year in the Clocktower Classic. In addition to Schabort, they include Scott McNeice, Chris Peterson, Rafael Ibarra, Harold Bostick, Joe Dowling, Rick Gilliland, Carlos Moleda, Josh Sharpe, Matt Updike, Harold Warner and Monique van der Vorst.
