As a United Methodist minister, I have been sent to and served in a number of communities large and small. Always I have been involved in community affairs and expressed my opinion, but I have never had an appreciation for a newspaper staff as I do for the Rome News-Tribune’s.

Not always do I agree with the editorials, and almost always I disagree with Mike Lester’s editorial cartoons, but I feel comfortable enough to say what I feel needs to be said.

As a matter of fact, the former editorial page editor, Pierre René -Noth, and I disagree on what constitutes news. Yet, we agree to disagree. I am sad that he has gone into semi-retirement. I will miss my adversary at his desk at the paper.

I want to say a special thank you to Jeremy Stewart, the best sportswriter anywhere, and Elizabeth Cady for reporting the news from the Floyd County Education Center. Also I want to commend Mike Colombo for being a dear friend.

The Rev. HARVEY JAMES PALMER III, Rome
