The County Water Committee recommended the hike at its last meeting in January along with the finalized fiscal year 2013 water budget.
The proposed 3-percent rate increase would go into affect April 1 and was viewed as a necessity by the committee.
“There are several capital projects that we need to do and our renewal and extension fund accumulations to date will basically be depleted this year,” Interim County Manager Gary Burkhalter said.
The County Commission caucuses at 1 p.m. and starts its action session at 2 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave. Both meetings are open to the public.
Floyd County residents last had a water rate hike in 2011. That increase was also 3 percent and added 72 cents to an average family of four’s bill based on using 5,000 gallons a month.
The 2011 rate hike, which was the county’s first in two years, was mainly in response to hikes in the wholesale cost of water the county purchased from Adairsville and Rome.
The board is also set to adopt the Rome-Floyd County Jail Agreement, which sets the amounts for booking in and holding city inmates at the Floyd County Jail.
The city has agreed to pay $40 a day, plus a one-time booking fee of $15.

Also, tax money doesn't go to the water system and the water system money doesn't go outside the department. It's customer-funded and a separate bank account.
