A self-described “fifth-generation mill hand” has organized a community cleanup this Saturday in Lindale.

Tim Reynolds, a parapro at Pepperell Middle School, started the initiative through his “Lindale Mill” Facebook page. Mary Hardin Thornton, director of Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful, has offered assistance.

“We’re excited about this project and hope it carries a positive message into the village,” she said.

That’s the vision of Reynolds and others who have jumped on the bandwagon — pitching in together to restore the pride of place they felt growing up.

“We might be a closed mill town, but we still have a good bit of people willing to come out and spruce Lindale up,” he said.

Volunteers will be clearing the area along the creek from the grist mill to the dam behind the cotton mill from 9 a.m. to noon. Anyone interested in helping is asked to meet in front of the Lindale Mill office.

“If the turnout is as good as it sounds like it will be, we hope to do this three times a year,” Reynolds said. “First we’re going to restore the area around the mill. When we’re done with that, then we can start on the sidewalks.”

Volunteers are asked to wear gloves and bring clippers, pruners, rakes and other tools they may have. Parking is available in the lot across the street from the mill office.
