2 jailed on theft by receiving, gun charges

Two Rome men remained in the Floyd County Jail on Sunday night, Feb. 3, after they were each charged with theft by receiving stolen property during a traffic stop on Saturday night, according to jail reports.

According to the reports:

Crandall Rayshun McCowan, 36, of 430B Walter St., and Donwin Freeman, 42, of 616 South Ave., were stopped on North Broad Street because of a broken vehicle light.

Police found a stolen Glock 27 semiautomatic pistol, which was confirmed to be stolen by Snellville police, as well as an open container of alcohol and a small amount of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.

McCowan was charged with felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanors open container and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Freeman was charged with felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanors open container and driving with a broken light.

Both men were being held without bond on Sunday night.
