Firefighters were still on the scene at the old Wheeler Lumber building next to Calhoun Feed Supply late Wednesday after a large fire in the building.

Most of the flames had been knocked down, but the smolder from the fire was expected to continue for a while, according to Battalion Chief Chuck Poarch with the Calhoun City Fire Department.

The warehouse is believed to have had large amounts of hay for feeding livestock inside of it, which may have contributed to the difficulty in extinguishing the flames.

North King Street was shut down because of the fire, according to Poarch, however no injuries were reported in the flames.

The warehouse erupted into flames at approximately 4 p.m.
