ATLANTA — Mike Bobinski, former director of athletics at Cincinnati’s Xavier University, has been named as the new athletic director at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Institute of Technology president Bud Peterson announced the hire Wednesday. Matt Nagel, a Georgia Tech spokesman, says Bobinski will be introduced during a Friday morning press conference.

Bobinski, of Yaphank, N.Y., spent 12 years as director of athletics at Xavier, and also served as associate vice president for development. Before that, Bobinski served as athletics director at Akron University from 1994 to 1998. He has also worked for The U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Notre Dame.

Bobinski played baseball at Notre Dame and graduated in 1979 with a degree in business administration.

Georgia Tech officials say Bobinski will start work on April 1.
