AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The school at the youth detention center in Augusta has a new principal.

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Avery Niles on Wednesday named Carol Yancy to the post at the Youth Development Campus in Augusta. She is set to begin her new role Jan. 16.

The department says Yancy has 22 years of teaching experience and has worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice since 1998.

Yancy had been acting principal at the facility since the firing last month of former principal Brenda James-Ford.

Niles said he filed James-Ford she failed to disclose a reprimand for allegations of grade changing at a previous job and a pending ethics investigation. The dismissal was part of an administrative investigation to uncover policy violations and employee misconduct at the troubled facility.
