Willie Terry Slack, 56, of 308 Kingston Ave., was found dead on the porch of a home at 306 Kingston Ave. at about 10:25 p.m. on Dec. 31.
“There is good information coming in to investigators, and we feel like we’re on the right trail,” Clayton said Wednesday.
Clayton said the body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy, but he had not seen the final report.
Slack’s funeral was conducted Tuesday at Thankful Baptist Church, and he was interred at Eastview Cemetery with military honors, according to a funeral announcement.
So far no suspects have been named in the shooting, and Clayton reported that no witnesses saw the incident, but several neighbors said they heard multiple shots.
“Our investigators have done a good job and are staying at it,” Clayton said.
Police are asking anyone who has information pertaining to the case to contact the investigations division of the Rome Police Department at 706-238-5111. Calls may be made anonymously.
