The Downtown Development Authority on Friday named the recipients of the annual Historic Downtown Rome Achievement Awards at the final Downtown Coffee Break this year.

The William M. Fricks Award was given to Joyce Greene Manning of Greene's Jewelers to honor a business or individual for a lifetime of service to the downtown community. The award is named after former City Commissioner Bill Fricks, who has been a downtown property and business owner for more than four decades. John Schroeder of Schroeder’s New Deli received the Fricks award in 2011.

The Quality of Life Award was given to Bob Blumberg to recognizes an individual within the downtown district who has had a significant impact on the community by making physical improvements or simply by working for the greater benefit of the central business district. Rome’s Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation picked up the Quality of Life award last year.

The Golden Nail Award was given to Swift & Finch Coffee. The award is given to a property or business owner for contributions to the physical character of downtown Rome through restoration of a building, or by a new business that made a major contribution to the welfare of downtown Rome. Seven Hills Fellowship and architect Mark Coch­ran were honored last year for their work on the property at 530 Broad St.

The Economic Partnership Award was presented to Jay Shell and Jeff McGowan of The Brewhouse Music and Grill in recognition of their continuing work for the betterment of the community that could have occurred as a result of job growth or other major investment in the community. Ricky Patterson and the Partridge Restaurant, 330 Broad St., received the Economic Partnership award a year go.

The Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Judge Greg Price for individual initiative and continuing dedication on behalf of the downtown community. Paula Blevins, owner of C&S Trophies, who chaired the DDA Outreach Committee for several years, was the recipient of last year’s Volunteer of the Year award.
