Berry College junior Katie Reagin has been named the 2013 Kirbo Scholar.

The Berry College scholarship is awarded annually and students receive up to $1,250 for academic research and experiences through study abroad, internships or artistic endeavors. The Council on Student Scholarship was impressed with her proposal, “The Prevalence and strain specificity of Trypanosoma cruzi in Triatoma sanguisuga specimens collected throughout the southeastern United States.”

Reagin, a biology major from Hampton, Ga., will work with her faculty sponsor, Associate Professor of Biology Chris Hall.

Kirbo Scholars must complete their projects before the end of the spring term of their senior year and present their research in the annual Symposium on Student Scholarship. To be eligible, students must be full-time with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 24 credit hours completed at Berry. They must display strong work ethic or volunteer, and must be endorsed by a faculty sponsor.
