The U.S. Department of Justice Tuesday announced Al J. Hurley, of Americus, was found guilty of attempted extortion and federal program bribery.
Officials say the 54-year-old commissioner promised to help award county contracting work to private contractors in exchange for money.
Authorities say Hurley faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for the attempted extortion charge, and 10 years in prison for bribery. Each charge also carries a maximum of $250,000.
A sentencing date has not been set.
