A car hit a man Thursday night as he walked along Smith Street, according to Rome police.

According to officer Bryan Goresh:

Kenneth Dupree, 47, of Rome, was walking north on Smith Street toward West First Street with another man and woman when a red Honda sedan turned off of West First Street and headed toward them.

The man and woman got out of the road but noticed too late that Dupree was still in the road.

The driver of the car, Justin Goss, of Armuchee, said he had problems seeing Dupree and hit him, causing Dupree to roll up the hood of the car and onto the windshield.

Goresh stated the lighting in the area was low, and Dupree was wearing dark clothing. There was no visible damage to the vehicle.

Dupree stated he was fine but did go with Floyd Medical Center EMS as a precaution. He told Goresh that he had been drinking earlier in the night.
