There was a joint exercise at the fire training facility off of North Avenue in North Rome on Wednesday. The exercise was conducted by the Rome-Floyd County and Cartersville fire departments in conjunction with the Georgia State Fire Academy.

“We got to get together and use each other’s resources to get this training going,” said Daniel Carpenter with Rome-Floyd County Fire Department.

The exercise consisted of a hands-on training course for the newest firefighters joining the department. They had to keep a controlled propane gas tank cooled.

“It allows the new guys to get a feel for a pressurized cylinder fire,” said Carpenter.

Before the actual exercise there was a four-hour training class. The course presented life saving information about fires involving pressurized containers and how to control these fires.
