Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is $425 million and gas stations in Rome and Floyd County were getting past problems to be able to continue selling tickets.
“We had some problems earlier but we’ve get it back up and working,” said Susie Lessler, assistant manager at the Kangaroo Express on Turner McCall Boulevard.
A Facebook post from the Georgia Lottery said a problem with machines on Sunday was caused by a software upgrade that was downloaded to all of its terminals.
“It was running slow after that but today it was down for a while and it wasn’t working at a lot of our other stores either,” Lessler said.
Jason Nichols at the MAPCO on Shorter Avenue said they had encountered problems with the machine being down Sunday and taking a long time to process tickets until about 7 p.m.
“It is still running slow today but we haven’t had a lot of people complain about it,” Nichols said. “We’re able to get them done; it’s just taking a little longer.”
The Citgo One Stop on Martha Berry Highway said its machine was running a little slow as well, but had not had any major problems.
Lottery spokeswoman Kimberly Starks said Monday afternoon that they could not say how widespread the problem was or provide other details.
Officials couldn’t say exactly when the problems with the Georgia machines began or how many were affected.
Powerball drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday nights and is played in 42 states.
