Savannah leaders look to revamp Georgia dangerous dog laws

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Officials in an eastern Georgia city are pushing state lawmakers to toughen laws concerning dangerous dogs.

WTOC-TV reported Friday that city leaders in Savannah are considering broadening the definition of dangerous dogs.

They say a dog that attacks for no apparent reason should be classified as dangerous.

Officials also look to require owners of dangerous dogs to outfit their pet with a muzzle.

In addition, officials plan to impose fines on dog owners who fail to have their pet vaccinated.

The Chatham County state delegation will present a proposal in Atlanta next month in hopes of seeing similar laws enacted statewide.

Yes, I know that Pit Bulls are so very very gentle and it's only a bad owner that makes for a bad dog but just think of the number of puppies in a liter owned by a bad owner and the seriousness of the problem is so very apparent. I own a dog. I own a gun. I'm a veteran. I've never been on welfare. I've never even gotten unemployment compensation. I had to quit cutting the grass of a disabled neighbor because of another neighbor's pit bull that raged and pulled at the chain and bounced off the fence for the 30 minutes it took me to cut the grass. Bad owner? Great person but loves killer dogs and automatic weapons.
