But several certified write-in candidates also drew some of the 92 votes cast for people other than the ones who made it on the ballot — Democrat Barack Obama, Republican Mitt Romney and Libertarian Gary Johnson.
Green Party nominee Jill Stein netted 10 votes; Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party won three votes; and one person voted for Rocky Anderson, the Justice Party candidate.
“Those will be counted, although there’s not enough to change anything,” Floyd County Elections Clerk Donna Maldonado said.
Among the other local write-ins for president were early Republican favorite Herman Cain, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.
Voters also wrote in candidates for other races, with 336 cast in the uncontested re-election of District Attorney Leigh Patterson, a Democrat.
“Anyone who will support a drug court” was one of the votes, although variations on “anyone else” came in second with 44 votes. Local attorneys Dan Morgan and Doug Slade pulled in a handful, and perennial favorite Mickey Mouse was the choice of 18 voters.
The Mouse also took 15 of the 283 write-in votes cast in the state Senate District 52 race that had Republican Chuck Hufstetler alone on the ballot.
His primary election competition, David Doss and Hayden Collins, netted a few votes but variations on “anyone else” led with 27 votes.
While write-ins were more prevalent in uncontested races — a voter in a state House race wrote “one named candidate is no choice” — there were 16 cast in the closely fought clerk of Superior Court race.
Democrat incumbent Barbara Penson edged past Republican Mark McAllister with just 24 votes to spare, and McAllister may still request a recount.
“Write-ins are wasted votes,” Maldonado said. “And in that race they almost could have made a difference.”
Here’s a look at some other local races where voters wrote in alternate choices:
The 181 votes included 18 for “anyone else” and six for Mickey Mouse.
Joining Mickey Mouse in the offerings were “candidates” such as George Jefferson, Wonder Woman, Maxine, George Carlin and Charly Darwin.
