Fifty-three units are now occupied at Etowah Terrace, the 77-unit apartment complex for senior residents located off South Broad Street.

For the remaining apartments, 18 applicants have met the qualifications for residency, said Melissa Jones, executive director of the South Rome Redevelopment Agency. A number of applicants were rejected because they did not meet the requirements, she said.

At least one of the occupants of each apartment must be at least 55 years of age. Tax credit regulations govern the income level of households. For example, a resident of a one-bedroom unit must have an annual income of at least $12,000, but no more than $22,000.

Applicants undergo a credit check, and income verification and criminal background checks are required, Jones said.

The apartments include an on-site computer/business center, a fitness center, theater, library, clubhouse and laundry facilities, along with walking trails that will tie into the Kingfisher Trail at the rear of the property on the Etowah River.

One-bedroom, one-bath apartments range from 775 square feet to 910 square feet. The two-bedroom, two-bath apartments range from 910 square feet to 1,042 square feet.
