2012 AP Scholars for Floyd County Schools

The College Board released the AP School Scholar Roster recently that included 13 Floyd County students earning AP Scholar Awards. The recognition for these students was for their exceptional achievement on AP Exams for 2012.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school.

High school students can earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 million students worldwide who take AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes three levels of achievement based on a students’ performance on AP Exams.

AP Levels of Achievement:

AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams

AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams

AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams

Gina Yu, senior – 2012 graduate – AP Scholar with Distinction

Model High School

Elizabeth Dempsey, senior – AP Scholar

Jeanette Parker, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar

Luke Robert, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar

Pepperell High School

Emily Bevels, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar

Rosa Dobbs, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar

Sarah Sandidge, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar with Honor

Andrew Owen, 2012 graduate – AP Scholar with Honor

The availability of AP classes for students is a priority in Floyd County Schools. The system’s Honors Prep program is recognized as one of the top college prep programs in the area with more than 13 AP classes offered to students.
