Readers of the Rome News-Tribune will soon get a double-play of Norman Arey’s “Arey on Sports” column.

Beginning later this month, Arey will have two columns published in the RN-T each week.

In addition to continuing his weekly “news and notes” column, the RN-T will also be adding his college football predictions column.

The new twice-a-week format will begin the last week in August, just in time for the first full Saturday of college football.

Arey, who grew up in North Carolina and now lives in Armuchee, is an award-winning journalist who has written for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Sports Illustrated, among numerous other publications.

Arey worked for the AJC for 24 years, including serving as the Georgia Tech beat writer for many years.

He also covered Atlanta’s professional teams — the Braves, Falcons and Hawks — and has covered The Masters, Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the Final Four.

His resumé also includes writing a tennis column for The Sporting News and serving as the Georgia correspondent for Sports Illustrated since 1974.

Arey attended both the University of North Carolina and the University of Georgia, earning his degree from Georgia.
