Beginning this fall, residents in the eastern part of the state will be able to board a bus that will take them to the Amtrak station in Wilson.
Amtrak says its dedicated Thruway motor coach service will have two routes.
One will serve Goldsboro, Kinston, Jacksonville and Wilmington. The second will serve Greenville, New Bern, Havelock and Morehead City.
The routes will connect with the Amtrak Palmetto that runs twice daily between New York City and Savannah.
The new service can pick up passengers at colleges and universities, military installations and communities that have limited intercity bus service.
