LETTER TO THE EDITOR: School, gas, food are too expensive

SCHOOL IS supposed to be about an education and not money but after speaking with several single working parents I don’t see learning as the first priority. I can’t believe that a fourth grader needs a $20 notebook, and it gets higher from there.

The total a family can spend on clothes and school supplies can be more than $60 or $70 per child. Where are parents making minimum wage on 30 hours a week supposed to be able to afford to pay their bills and afford $3.70-plus a gallon in gas to get to work. What’s next, charging to ride the school bus?

And what is happening with gas prices? They were down to $3.10 per gallon a couple of weeks ago and now they are back up to $3.70 and rising.

When is somebody in high authority going to step up and say enough is enough? This is America, and we’re not going to take this abuse any longer. Not all poor people are homeless, but we are on fixed incomes and can’t afford all the luxuries of the rich.

Please get off your duffs and help take our country back. Have some guts and stand together or doesn’t the old saying “united we stand” mean anything anymore?

Answer my questions Rome and Floyd County. After all of this expense how do you feed your families? And don’t say food pantries or food stamps because so many people abuse these options, and it is hard to get enough for proper nourishment.
