Hefflinger’s 2 homers help Rome to historic victory

The Rome Braves defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 10-2 to sweep the four game

home series. Robby Hefflinger (6, 7) led the Rome offense by going 2-4 with two homeruns and five RBI. This afternoon’s win marks the eleventh straight victory tying a Rome record set back in 2004.

The GreenJackets got on the board in the third inning when Brett Krill hit an RBI single and Jesus Flores drove in Krill with a sacrifice fly. This early 2-0 score didn’t last long as the Braves answered with four runs in their half of the third. William Beckwith hit a two RBI double and Robby Hefflinger followed with a two run homerun for the 4-2 advantage. The Braves would score two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles, by Fernando De Los Santos and Elmer Reyes, and four runs in the sixth on a

RBI fielder’s choice by Reyes and a monster three run homerun by Hefflinger that gave the Braves the 10-2 victory.

Greg Ross (4-7) got the win pitching seven innings, scattering ten hits and allowing two runs while striking out five. Nathan Hyatt came on to pitch the final two innings to shut down the GreenJackets’ offense and not allow a hit. Bryce Bandilla (2-4) receives the loss for Augusta as he allowed six runs in his four innings of work.

The Braves head to Kannapolis for a four game series beginning tomorrow. then come home on August 8th to host the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 7 p.m.
