From time eternal there have been and always will be people to are petty, self-serving, jealous, sneaky, etc. If TV shows must be used for comparison, think of “Dallas” or “Real Housewives of Atlanta”; personally I’d have to throw in Washington D.C. as an example too, though it is not a scheduled show yet. But how unfair to smear the entire town’s image based on the actions of a few.
As a fourth generation native of Cave Spring, I can neither confirm nor deny the alledged wrongdoing of reference. However, I think a ray from the writer’s own dark-side slipped through by generalizing that all Springers are like those described. If citizens showed up to take a stand and work to right a preceived misdeed — is that not a good thing? I hardly see it as a negative, archaic act.
There are too many genuinely good people in Cave Spring who daily walk with integrity and operate by doing good to be labeled as a whole negatively. Cave Spring is indeed unique. It is populated by real humans. It still operates within the law and that’s what elections and recalls are all about. It changes slowly but that in itself is part of its attraction.
Be fair; attack only the guilty parties and/or misdeeds. After all, like the Cheers theme song says- “Making your way in the world, today takes everything you’ve got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn’t you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go, Where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came...” Cave Spring is a place like that, warts and all!
