A West Virginia woman was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting after she allegedly attempted to steal items from Kmart, according to Rome police and Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Ali Christine Higgins, 24, of 5029 Helena Ave., Delbarton, allegedly selected two shirts, one valued at $10 and one valued at $12.99, and a pair of shoes valued at $34.99, went to another section of the store then put the items in her purse.

Higgins then allegedly went to the cosmetic section of the store and selected a box of tampons valued at $7.99, looked directly at the security camera, and hid those in her purse as well.

A loss prevention employee witnessed the incidents and followed Higgins outside. She willingly came back into the store and returned the stolen items.

Higgins remained in jail Tuesday night without bond.
