Shorter University will be featured as part of the Gulf South Conference’s lineup of the eighth edition of the league’s GSC-TV LIVE football television schedule, which was released on Tuesday by the conference office.
The Hawks, which will be competing as part of the Gulf South Conference for the first time in 2012-13, are slated to appear on the Comcast/Charter Sport Southeast network on Thursday, Oct. 25 as they play host to league rival Valdosta State at 7:30 pm ET from Historic Barron Stadium in Rome.
Shorter’s showdown with Valdosta State is one of nine telecasts agreed upon by the Gulf South Conference and Comcast. The television series includes six Thursday night contests and six non-conference games. Shorter and VSU get together in one of three league contests featured in 2012.
Comcast/Charter Sport Southeast is the primary carrier, showing all nine games live along with Mediacom, Alabama Cable Network, TV-24 (Anniston, Ala.) and WHCQ-TV Channel 8 (Cleveland, Miss.).
Joining on a limited basis are ESPN3 and CoxSports. Availability to view telecasts on ESPN3 will be limited to those markets where CSS is not provided, while CoxSports will show games on a tape-delay basis (scheduled to be released at a later time). Additional coverage on ESPN Game Plan is a possibility as well.
Play-by-play commentator Don Russell, color commentator Rick Rhodes and sideline reporter Jim Cavale will lead the broadcast from the booth and sidelines for the third year in a row. Gulf Coast Mobile, L.L.C. earned the right to produce this year’s GSC-TV package.
Shorter will compete against a full NCAA Division II schedule for the first time in 2012-13 in each of its 19 varsity intercollegiate sports, 14 of which are sponsored by the Gulf South Conference. Shorter was accepted into Candidacy Year 2 of the three-year NCAA Division II membership process last week.
