Drug arrest after traffic stop

A Rome man was jailed early Sunday morning on several drug charges after a traffic stop in downtown Rome.

According to Floyd County jail reports:

Joseph Earl Chatman, 58, 30 Blacks Bluff Road, Rome, was stopped for a traffic violation at Broad Street and North Second Avenue a few minutes before 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Chatman could not produce a driver’s license, but while inventorying the vehicle prior to having it towed, police found four small bags of suspected marijuana and two bags of suspected cocaine.

Chatman is being in the Floyd County jail without bond on felony charges of possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana along with misdemeanor charges of failing to obey a traffic device and no license.
