Rome police are searching for several individuals involved in an apparent attempted robbery at a home on Calhoun Avenue early this morning. Several shots were fired during the incident, but no one was hurt.

According to Rome police reports:

A resident at 516 Calhoun Avenue told officers he was sitting on his back porch around midnight when approached by several suspects, one of whom was brandishing a hand gun.

The man got up and ran inside the house, prompting the intruders to follow. Inside the home, another victim became embroiled in a scuffle with a couple of the intruders when the gunman approached and pointed the pistol at the second victim.

The victim tried to grab the gun, prompting it to go off, the shot striking a wall. The intruders fled at that point, but not before several other shots were fired.

Witnesses, who reported hearing at least four shots, told officers the suspects fled across Stonewall Street.

Police recovered three 9 mm shell casings from a neighboring property.
