Police are investigating nine incidents, some of which are car burglaries, some vandalism, and some of both from early Tuesday on Dodd Street.
“Go home” was spray painted on the car of an Indian family. A curse word was sprayed on a lady’s garage.
Streets and a fire hydrant were also vandalized.
It is possible the vandalism was a hate crime, but police do not have a motive yet that points that way, said Pete Sailors, a detective with the Rome Police Department. The investigation is still in its early stages, he said.
Evidence is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sailors said.
One vandal may have left behind a clue. The initials “DBW” were painted on the garage door, Sailors said.
The thieves got away with several items. One resident said $2,565 in property, including fishing equipment, glasses and a paramedic bag, was taken.
Residents reported golf clubs, golf balls, change and a machete missing.
Sailors said there were other incidents of auto vandalism recently in the same area.
Anyone with information about the burglaries can call Sailors at 706-238-5118.
