With every passing fourth of July another Peachtree Road Race can be put in the books. This was the 43rd annual race that has become a holiday tradition for runners across the world — and from Greater Rome.

Many local runners took part in the annual race yet again this year with some fine finishes. Jay Stephenson finished the highest of runners from the Greater Rome area by finishing 55th with a time of 33:19. Clarke Thomas finished 162nd with a time 36:11, Paul Deaton had a time of 36:16 to take 172nd, and Jared Deaton took 250th place with a time 37:32.

Other finishes included Cody Evans who placed 277th with a time 38:01, Jill Horst finished 284th with a time of 38:08 and Clay Milford finished with a time of 38:15 to take 293rd.

“It was good, and not nearly as hot as it has been the past few of days,” said Horst when reached by phone. “I’ve done this race since I was 16 years old and it never gets old.

“It wasn’t my best time by far, but I was pretty happy with it,” added Horst. “It’s always a fun way to spend the Fourth of July, and I wouldn’t know what do the morning of the Fourth if I didn’t run in the race.”
