The Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive 4-2 Thursday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium in front of 2,202 fans. This is the second series in a row won by Rome in the SAL second

half.

Greenville’s Bryan Johns led off the game by reaching on an Elmer Reyes’ error. Keury De La Cruz moved Johns to second on a single and David Renfroe drove him in with a single to left. Rome would answer by scoring twice in their half of the inning. Tony Mueller led off with a walk then advanced on a Ross Heffley single and a passed ball. Kyle Kubitza would plate Mueller with a sacrifice fly to left field. After a wild pitch, Heffley moves to third and is driven in on a William Beckwith single.

The third run would be scored by Cory Brownsten after he walked, sacrificed to second, and scored on a Tony Mueller double. Rome added a run in the sixth and Greenville added one in the eighth for the 4-2 final.

Ryan Weber (4-3) earned the win after he threw seven strong innings for Rome surrendering only one unearned run on four hits and striking out six. Yeiper Castillo (5-4) received the loss. John Cornley (6) came on in the top of the ninth to save the game for Rome.

The Braves welcome the Kannapolis Intimidators into town tomorrow to start a five game series at State Mutual Stadium at 7 p.m. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
