AS I WAS reading the article in Friday’s Roman Forum I was disturbed. Reading this article put a twinge in my spirit. If indeed, the police responded to a legitimate complaint of breaking the state and local law of noise pollution, by saying that living in South Rome “that’s the ghetto and that is what they do,” we have a problem. That is a scary statement. The problem of noise is not just in South Rome, the problem of loud music is city and countywide.

This causes me great concern! Does this mean that the police will not respond as fast if they are needed in South Rome, as they would if they got a call from West Rome? If this is the case we do have something to be concerned about.

Let’s get real. Whether your windows are up or down we are exposed to this type of noise in all areas of Rome. You can be waiting for the light to change while you are on Broad Street, in church on Sunday morning or sitting on your porch and hear music loud enough to rattle your windows and eardrums.

If the police made this kind of statement then all areas in the city and county must be “Ghetto.”
