The Hon Company is bringing its Southeast Regional Distribution center back to Cedartown. Hon Member and Community Relations Manager Clay Cooper said the distribution of Hon goods had been outsourced for several years but is now back under the roof of Hon’s primary plant at 907 West Ave. in Cedartown.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Cedartown Career Center will assist Hon’s effort fill about 30 jobs for forklift operators Wednesday.

Bringing the distribution center back in house will actually mean 134 jobs at the Hon facility, but many of those positions have already been filled. Cooper said the company was able to consolidate some production lines to optimize space in the plant and personnel were shifted from production to distribution.

“As of right now we haven’t added any additional square footage,” Cooper said.

The distribution centerin Cedartown will serve Hon customers all across the eastern United States.

Applications will be taken from 8 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cedartown Career Center, 262 North Park Blvd.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have at least two years of forklift experience. A high school diploma or a General Education Diploma is preferred but not required by the employer.

Workers must be able to do simple math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals and fractions. They must also be able to read and interpret charts, schedules, production logs and simple drawings.

Work schedules are from 2 to 10 p.m. for the second shift and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the third shift, Monday through Friday.

The salary is $10.75 an hour. Cooper said a benefits package would begin right away for people hired on full time.
