SUMMERVILLE — Donation jars are popping up at stores around Chattooga County for Nathan Hines, a nearly 4-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare kidney disease when he was two months old.

Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome occurs mostly in families of Finnish origin and develops shortly after birth. The son of Bobby and Mary Hines of Pennville, Nathan also was diagnosed with cerebral palsy before the kidney problem was diagnosed.

“He is an only child and, because the syndrome is inherited, it is too much of a risk for us to have any more children,” Mary Hines told The Summerville News.
