Roberts joined Greater Rome Bank in 2002, bringing 35 years of financial and banking experience to the organization.
“Bill Roberts’ expertise in community banking has been a tremendous asset to Greater Rome Bank and the Rome community,” said David Lance, bank president. “It has been my pleasure to work with Bill, and I wish him all the best in retirement.”
Roberts’ retirement plans include many rounds of golf and quality time with his wife Pam, their two children and three grandchildren.
Roberts began his career in 1967 with General Motors Acceptance in sales finance after graduating from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance. In 1970 he assumed the responsibilities of credit card collections and consumer lending with Anniston National Bank in Anniston, Ala. He relocated to Rome in 1975 when he joined the consumer loan department of Trust Company Bank.
Later he served 17 years as senior vice president of Georgia State Bank until it was acquired by AmSouth in 1994.
Roberts continued his career with AmSouth as city president until 2002. His 10 years with Greater Rome Bank have been monumental in the success of the community bank, according to bank officials.
In addition to Greater Rome Bank, Roberts has devoted much of his time to community and civic organizations, including Rome Lions Club, Floyd Health Care Foundation, Salvation Army, Floyd County United Way, YMCA and First United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Georgia Bankers Association, Rome Board of Realtors, Rome Chapter BAI and Rome Home Builders Association.
